Umelecká intervencia v priestoroch pohrebnej kaplnky sv. Michala s karnerom, Starý zámok, Slovenské banské múzeum, Banská Štiavnica (júl – august 2021) / Art intervention in the funerary chapel of St. Michael with ossuary, Old Castle, Slovak Mining Museum, Banská Štiavnica (July – August 2021)
The project was situated in the underground section of the chapel, which originally functioned as an ossuary (carner). While in the Middle Ages these spaces were typically filled with exhumed remains that served as a memento mori for the living, today the space is empty, with only its name referring to its original purpose.
The title of the intervention, PORT, works with the metaphor of the funerary chapel as a place of final farewell—a symbolic harbor from which the deceased set sail for the afterlife. As a cultural reference to this transit, I installed a boat within the now-vacant ossuary, evoking the vessel of Charon—the psychopomp who ferried souls to the underworld. The installation was complemented by a repetitive sound recording of a text in the artist’s own interpretation: “my body is grass, my body is wind,” which, within the sacred space, accentuated the impermanence of the physical form and its transformation in a metaphysical sense.
Projekt bol situovaný do podzemnej časti kaplnky, ktorá pôvodne slúžila ako osuárium (karner). Hoci v stredoveku boli tieto priestory bežne zaplnené exhumovanými pozostatkami, ktoré živým pripomínali ich vlastnú smrteľnosť (memento mori), v súčasnosti je tento priestor prázdny a k jeho pôvodnej funkcii odkazuje už len názov.
Názov intervencie PORT (prístav) pracuje s metaforou pohrebnej kaplnky ako miesta poslednej rozlúčky – symbolického prístavu, z ktorého sa zosnulí vydávajú na plavbu do záhrobia. Ako kultúrny odkaz na tento tranzit som do dodnes už prázdneho osuária inštaloval čln, atribút Chárona – psychopompa prepravujúceho duše do podsvetia. Inštaláciu dopĺňala repetitívna zvuková nahrávka textu v autorskej interpretácii „moje telo je tráva, moje telo je vietor“, ktorá v sakrálnom priestore akcentovala pominuteľnosť telesnej schránky a jej transformáciu v metafyzickom zmysle.
