Artist’ statement
My painterly practice, much like my previous work in other media, explores themes of inner uncertainty and the fragility of the individual within an environment defined by aggression and the gaze of the “Other.” The paint is often applied onto dark underpaintings or grounds, where the gradual layering of transparent glazes—leveraging their unique optical properties—allows me to achieve significant visual depth.
The figures, characterized by a distinct paleness that visibly distances them from common stereotypes, do not act as participants in a narrative. Instead, they appear as beings in a state of meditation or as if caught in a moment of accidental intrusion within their private space. These subjects are often androgynous with ambiguous gender identities, captured during the period of adolescence.
Depicted in isolation against backdrops of open landscapes and endless water surfaces, they are cast into a space without the possibility of shelter, facing the threat of objectification. Simultaneously, however, they invite the viewer into their idealized imaginary worlds, which serve as their only refuge and sense of security. These queer aspects and gender fluidity are explored through a free and fluid engagement with classical painting techniques.

Moja maliarska tvorba, podobne ako moja doterajšia práca v iných médiách, tematizuje vnútornú neistotu a krehkosť jednotlivca v prostredí definovanom agresiou a pohľadom toho druhého. Maľba je často nanášaná na tmavé podmaľby či šepsy, kde postupné vrstvenie farieb v transparentných lazúrach umožňuje maliarovi vďaka ich optickým vlastnostiam dosiahnuť vizuálnu hĺbku. Postavy so svojou príznačnou bledosťou viditeľne sa vyčleňujúce zo všeobecných stereotypov nepôsobia ako aktéri deja, ale skôr ako bytosti v stave meditácie či náhodného vyrušenia vo vlastnom súkromnom priestore. Často ide o androgýnne subjekty s nejednoznačnou rodovou identitou, zachytené v období dospievania. Subjekty sú zobrazované izolovane na pozadí otvorených krajín s nekonečnou vodnou hladinou. Vrhnuté do priestoru bez možnosti úkrytu čelia hrozbe objektifikácie. Súčasne však diváka pozývajú do svojich idealizovaných imaginárnych svetov, v ktorých nachádzajú jediné útočisko a pocit bezpečia. Tieto queer aspekty a genderová fluidita sú skúmané prostredníctvom voľného narábania s klasickými maliarskymi technikami.
