Asile de nuit (Night Shelter) is a multidisciplinary performance for an ensemble in which I have overseen every creative dimension—from screenplay, set design, and costumes to music and direction. Inspired by Rilke’s The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge, the work explores the themes of death and its associated rituals at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
In an era where death is often marginalized and detached from daily life, I seek to evoke its intimacy and profound significance for both the individual and their loved ones. The performance draws on historical sources, including personal correspondence and period newspapers.
The visual identity, built on the contrast of black and gold, symbolizes the cycle of life and death. The atmospheric score, composed using mobile applications, underscores the emotional gravity of the individual scenes.
Asile de nuit is an invitation to reflect on our relationship with mortality and the rituals that help us process loss. The project premiered at Záhrada-CNK, Banská Bystrica, in 2013. The screenplay was subsequently published in the arts magazine Vlna (issue 59/2014).
Asile de nuit (Nočný azyl) je multidisciplinárna performancia pre skupinu performerov, v ktorej zastrešujem všetky kreatívne zložky – od scenára, scénografie a kostýmov až po hudbu a réžiu. Dielo, inšpirované Rilkeho Zápiskami Malteho Lauridsa Briggeho, skúma tému smrti a s ňou spojených rituálov na prelome 19. a 20. storočia.
V čase, keď je smrť marginalizovaná a vyčleňovaná z našich životov, sa snažím pripomenúť jej intimitu a hlboký význam pre jednotlivca aj jeho blízkych. Performancia čerpá z historických prameňov, akými sú osobné listy či dobová tlač.
Vizuálna koncepcia, postavená na kontraste čiernej a zlatej, symbolizuje kolobeh života a smrti. Atmosférická hudba komponovaná prostredníctvom mobilných aplikácií dotvára náladu a podčiarkuje emocionálny náboj jednotlivých obrazov.
Asile de nuit je pozvaním k úvahe o našom vzťahu k smrteľnosti a o rituáloch, ktoré nám pomáhajú spracovať stratu blízkych. Projekt mal premiéru v Záhrade-CNK v Banskej Bystrici v roku 2013. Scenár k inscenácii bol publikovaný v časopise Vlna (59/2014).
