LGBTQ+ people remain a disadvantaged minority in Slovakia. However, within the field of contemporary art, it appears that queer identity in its diverse manifestations is experiencing a golden age. Alexandra Tamásová talks with artists and members of the LGBTQ+ community, Maroš Rovňák and Andrej Dúbravský, about the relationship between queer identity and queer art, whether the “queer” label is an advantage or an obstacle in an artistic career, and the distinction between the terms “queer” and “LGBTQ+”.
